On Thursday 26 June, The Centre for the Less Good Idea presents The Open Moment | Thinking in Continental Motion, a public showing of some of the key findings and creative methodologies developed during a four-day workshop at The Centre.
Thinking in Continental Motion is an incubative workshop that sees Ethiopian dancer, choreographer, and founding director of Fendika Cultural Center, Melaku Belay, workshopping with Johannesburg-based artists Shanell Winlock-Pailman and Stompie Selibe, and The Forgotten Angle Theatre Collaborative’s Nicholas Aphane, from 23 - 26 June 2025.
Belay and the participating artists will be engaged in a process of research and improvised experimentation, sharing and responding to each other’s individual practices over the course of the incubation. This collaboration also involves the encounter between the artists’ lived experiences of Johannesburg and Addis Ababa.
This engagement is made possible through a collaboration with The National Arts Festival, Makhanda.
The Open Moment emerges from this context and will be an opportunity for audiences to witness the research, experimentation, and collaborative processes that took place between the artists during the four-day workshop, as well as the outcomes thereof.
